old buildings and the north wall does not disappoint as it also shows the outline of the earlier 1646 building.\u00a0 At least we thought it was the outline but it&#8217;s looking like there might be some of the original building hiding under lime render on lath applied in the late 19th century.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t remove the paint without damaging the render, but don&#8217;t want to leave waterproof paint on there.\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;ve left it for now pending research and advice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/north-wall-render.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-667\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/north-wall-render-450x337.jpg\" alt=\"north-wall-render\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/north-wall-render-450x337.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/north-wall-render-624x468.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/north-wall-render.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The front door surround looks like bath stone.\u00a0 It stripped well.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know why someone thought magnolia would look nicer.\u00a0\u00a0 We originally thought the stone had been salvaged from another building, but there is also bath stone above and below the bay windows so it looks like it was cut for the property.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/door-stripped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-652\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/door-stripped-450x337.jpg\" alt=\"door-stripped\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/door-stripped-450x337.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/door-stripped-624x468.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.the-salutation.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/door-stripped.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is evidence of writing over the front door.\u00a0 It is possible to make out the words licensed, spirits, and tobacco.\u00a0\u00a0 The top line is the name of the landlord at the time, William T Davey. \u00a0 He was\u00a0 the landlord from 1910 to 1933.\u00a0\u00a0 We think the facade was constructed in 1910.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Edit &#8211;
